Architecture Beyond the Artifact
AI can draft diagrams, inventories, standards and impact analyses. It cannot own an organisation's intent, risk appetite, investment trade-offs or decision rights. This four-part series follows the architect's work as it moves up the stack: from periodic documents to continuous evidence and exception governance, choosing an orchestration pattern by its control requirements before choosing a framework, the production decisions behind Power Platform code apps, and using AI to learn rather than merely to receive answers. It follows Langkloof Financial Cooperative, a fictional regional financial-services cooperative modernising onboarding across branches, mobile channels and low-connectivity areas; its systems and figures are illustrative. Product facts were checked on 5 November 2026.

- Part 2Choose the orchestration pattern before the frameworkTeams often pick an agent framework first and inherit its idea of how work should flow. Part 2 of Architecture Beyond the Artifact starts from control requirements instead: who chooses the next step, where state lives, how the work stops and who approves the result.8 min read
- Part 3Power Platform code apps: production starts before the first componentPower Apps code apps let developers build a React or Vue app in their own editor and run it on the Power Platform. The decisions that make it production-ready come first: environment, licensing, solution, connection references and source control. Part 3 of Architecture Beyond the Artifact sets them out.8 min read
- Part 4Use AI to learn, not merely to receive answersAn AI assistant can give a junior architect a correct answer in seconds and leave them unable to defend it. Part 4 of Architecture Beyond the Artifact sets out a learning pattern built on retrieval, rising difficulty and explanation, and the evidence that shows when someone has actually learnt.8 min read
Working through any of this in your own organisation?
These articles come out of delivery work rather than theory. If the problems in this series look familiar, a short scoping conversation is usually the quickest way to work out what is worth doing first.
